Soi Park
Week 7
Oct 21, 2024 - Oct 27, 2024
Trailblazers are back on the stage! We went to the LED Volume stage for our final shooting. Sydney Relkin from team KESS contributed to our project as an actor. We also set up the stage with more appropriate props that will grant more believable environment.

After Tuesday's meeting, the feedback I received from mentors was mainly about the visuals of the second hero shot.
- Add movements to the package, it is too static
- Color of the background doesn't match the other scenes
- Adjust the angle of asteroid FX and package planet
In addition, I will work on the lighting and change the meteor FX a little bit to make it less linear.

I keyframed the package in the sequencer to give it a motion. It rotates just a little bit so it can keep showing the logo. I also used the new matte painting background updated by Duck. However, I can't have an animated background in which stars on the back should twinkle so we decided to render the scene without the background and composite in Nuke later. Furthermore, I changed the angle of the asteroid FX as well as the camera to match the references. I may create another FX or manually place some nuts that are floating in the background to fill some of the empty spots in the scene.

I placed 7 lights in the scene consisting of 2 directional lights, 1 rectangle light, 2 point lights, and 2 spot lights. When I placed two directional lights, I got the warning message that said they are competing to be the single one, but Wyatt knew the solution for that which was changing the Forward Shading Priority setting. Two directional lights serve as a key light, and so does the rectangle light. Two point lights and two spot lights are used for decorative light that adds an aesthetic to the scene. Both of them have green and purple colors and are placed on the left and right respectively.

Lastly, I added the jitter position to the meteor FX so that it doesn't fall linearly. Now meteors do feel like it's clustering! I also changed the color to a blueish-white to blend better with the background.
Here are two renders with/without the background. You may see circular light on the background and that is because of the light renderer of the meteor FX. The background is textured plane mesh so it reflects the light of the FX. To be clear, as mentioned above, we will be using the one without the background so it won't be a problem.

We do have a sound effect this week, so please check out the blog of our compositor, Wyatt Clark!
